Hi Everyone! Hope you all had a great summer – now it’s time to think about the upcoming events for fall and winter…
Sledge Hockey
Our season starts Sunday, November 1st and goes through
February 28th, 2 PM to 3PM, at the Waterford Arena.
Enclosed you will find a registration form for anyone interested in playing sledge hockey this winter, as well as a Game Schedule. Please complete the registration form and return it to me at 46 Berkley Crescent, Simcoe, N3Y 2K5 with your cheque for $50 payable to South Coast Special Needs Kids, PRIOR TO OCTOBER 9TH.
If you have a sledge, bring it with you, otherwise a sledge will be assigned to you on November 1st. Also, please bring your hockey jersey – new players will be given a jersey at the arena. All players must wear a helmet and upper and lower body protection while on the ice.
NOTE:
Players who are unable to propel themselves will need to bring their own “buddy-pusher”.
Helpers on the ice MUST wear a helmet for liability reasons.
ALL PLAYERS MUST BE IN A SLEDGE, AND ONLY BUDDY-PUSHERS AND COACHES CAN BE ON THE ICE WITH THE PLAYERS.
Please ensure that your sledge hockey player is accompanied by someone who is physically capable to transfer the player from a wheelchair to their sledge either manually or by using the lift.
Baseball
Another baseball season finished up at the end of August. This year we welcomed Pat McElhone to our coaching staff! Many thanks to Pat, Frank, Marg and Ruth for volunteering their time to coach!! See all you ball players next May – let’s hope for more dry Saturdays than we had this year!

Basketball
This is a no charge, drop-in activity held at First Baptist Church in Simcoe from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday nights beginning October 14th and runs until November 25th. The gymnasium is accessible by elevator, so come out and shoot some hoops!!
Swimming
SCSNK will reimburse the cost of swimming lessons (up to $50) for any of our children with special needs, once every calendar year. Please turn in original receipts issued by the pool to Brenda Hunt, Treasurer, 14 Elm Street, Simcoe, N3Y 3B3. Receipt must be marked paid and state the child’s name and the swimming lesson the child is signed up for.
Curling
The Curling Club at The Brantford Golf and Country Club has offered wheelchair curling in the past on Sundays from 2 -4. You can contact Kaye or Bill Clarke at
519-753-6622 for more information regarding this program.
Golf
We will let you know the details about our golf carts and where you can golf next year in our Spring Newsletter.
Bowling
We have arranged for bowling nights – see the enclosed list of dates. Remember to contact Scott Chambers AT LEAST 2 days prior to the bowling date if you plan to join in – we must let the bowling alley know how many are attending so they can prepare enough pizza.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding our programs.
